English name generator

Questions and answers

Where do the English names and surnames come from?
The generator randomly combines entries from lists of common English first names and surnames according to the selected gender. The first name and the surname can be switched on separately, and a single run returns up to several dozen variants.
Do the generated names match real people?
A combination may coincide with the name of a real person by chance, because it is assembled from common first names and surnames. No personal data is involved: the generator queries no databases of people and does not keep the results.
What does the middle name checkbox do?
It adds a middle name between the given name and the surname: James Arthur Wilson. No separate list is needed for it — middle names are drawn from the same pool of given names, so it is simply a third checkbox. It is switched off by default: for most tasks a first name and a surname are enough.
